I first felt pretty good about this trip to Detroit. I booked the car on QEEQ. It was an Avis Toyota Corolla with auto gear. In my head I thought the car would be easy to drive and everything would be simple. Around mid April in the afternoon, about five pm, I arrived at the Detroit airport counter. I was a bit tired from flying and just wanted to get the car and go to the hotel. When I was at the counter the staff opened a new rental for me on the spot. I got confused right away. In my mind I kept asking if my online booking was still valid or not. When I calmed down and checked the papers I felt like there were two rentals now. It looked like I was charged twice. I suddenly felt very annoyed and also worried. The FI paper even had the word QEEQ on it so I was more lost. I did not know which money was really taken. I am an overseas visitor and I get nervous when it is about money in another country. So I reached out to their support team and sent all the documents and FI photos I had. In my mind I was ready for a long fight with the rental counter and I was afraid my English would not be clear enough. Instead something different happened. Support kept following my case. They asked for updates and did not sound lazy. That made me feel a bit safer inside. They contacted the rental company to check if this booking was used or not. I waited for news. While I was waiting I was still worried and kept thinking I might lose my money. When they told me that the rental company confirmed this booking was not used and that it could be refunded my whole body relaxed. My first inner voice was that I was glad someone stayed on this with me. I could feel that one person was always watching my case and giving me each new step. I did not need to call many places and explain the story again and again. For an overseas visitor like me this feeling is very important. I felt taken care of and not just like a number in a system. During my days in Detroit the new rental at the counter was a big headache for me but the way the problem was handled stayed in my mind. Even though I did not use the original booking to drive the car I still got back the money that was mine and that meant a lot to me.
